1. What is your job title? Recording Engineer
2. How long have you been at MSU? 25 years
3. Have you been a member of the APA the whole time? Yes, and I served on the APA board for a number of years. Everyone should serve on your union board or join a committee if you have the bandwidth to do so, it will give you a deeper appreciation of what your union does for you.
4. What department do you work in, and can you tell me a little bit about what you do? I work at the College of Music, recording recitals and ensemble concerts and providing technology support to our students, staff and faculty.
5. What brought you to your job at MSU? I applied for the position right out of college. I was fortunate to have a background in classical music as well as internships in audio that made this position a great fit.
6. What do you enjoy most about working at MSU? The students. I learn so much from my student employees and other music students daily. Working at a University is invigorating.
7. What do you like to do when you are not at work? Spending time with my husband and kids. I have two high schoolers (Senior and Freshman) so I try to soak up as much time as I can with them before they head off to college.
8. In high school I was known for cello and creative writing. I was very fortunate to spend my last two years of high school at Interlochen Arts Academy.
9. I have (sadly) no pets. Allergies are a bummer.
10. I like all kinds of music, but 90s alternative rock was formative and probably what I listen to the most in my non-work time.
11. My favorite area restaurant is Soup Spoon and my favorite dish is Voodoo Pasta
12. My hobbies include all things arts and crafts. I do a lot of sewing, cooking, doodling, crocheting and I bought a loom just before the pandemic, so I had a lot of time to learn that skill. I volunteer with a local children’s theatre and love working with the puppetry crew. Currently we’re building Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors. I am also a board game geek.
13. My favorite junk food is popcorn because it’s so versatile. Salty, spicy, sweet? You can flavor it any way and it has a satisfying crunch.
