Taking stock of our accomplishments

It is often the practice at the end of a year, to look at the previous accomplishments to appreciate the fruit of the APA family’s efforts. Our collective efforts resulted in an out-of-cycle pay increase of an additional across the board 3% raise in January 2024. Additionally, our latest contract negotiations netted gains including some not seen in over 35 years where we;

  • Increased the Min/APL salary table, Sick time payout for retirees, Bereavement days, Longevity payout by 21%, protections against additional probation periods, and opportunities to address safety concerns.
  • Improved the sick time accruals and use for family and personal use, the language for Interim positions and Military Leave, and access to Ed Assist for new hires.
  • Added MLK Day to holidays, recognition and protections to out-of-state and remote work positions, and protections so the October raises were across the board and not the previous 40/60 split.
  • Secured the Parental Leave policy and Personal Days policies into the APA contract.

It is amazing what can be achieved when our APA family is engaged and active throughout the year. Not everything can be accomplished with immediate effect, but the odds of success increase with strategic and sustained pressure. The APA family excels when your voice is part of the process.
